I am a native of Baltimore, Maryland and illustrate mostly for the US and international nonfiction educational market and write ESL stories for foreign publishers.
I recently illustrated a biographical children’s book, John Newton, coming out this spring by Heritage Books. In 2017 I was the SCBWI Martha Weston Grant recipient for my historical fiction illustrations created about Marie Marvingt, a WWI female fighter pilot.
My paintings and drawings are used as studies before the illustration of a historical or fictional character. I have a love of faces—all faces—and any excuse to further explore them is a good excuse to me. More of my work can be seen on my website: amalillustration.com
